loadhigh uses Ghost, like pretty much every other newsletter these days that isn’t hosted on Substack. Under the hood, it runs on a tiny Digital Ocean VPS that befits its microscopic readership.

Why not just use Substack? Mainly, I’m just too lazy to deal with the inevitable platform migration off of Substack once they get sick of hosting a bunch of newsletters for free. They also have zero customization options even for things as trivial as typefaces. I’m not much of a web guy, but I at least want to set a dark background and pick my own fonts.[1]

Privacy

I’ve turned off all of Ghost’s email tracking: opens, clicks, sources, and link tagging are all disabled. My goal is to share interesting ideas, not spy on you.

  1. Georgia as the serif (body) and Verdana as the sans-serif (headers, navigation), since these two relatively ancient typefaces are still the nicest for on-screen reading, especially if you’re not using an ultra-high–resolution screen. ↩︎
